Purpose
Coptica is a new Journal dedicated to the publishing of scholarly articles in the vast field of study of Christianity in Egypt. It is designed to further the goals espoused by its publishers: St. Shenouda the Archimandrite Coptic Society and St. Mark Foundation for Coptic History Studies. Its intended audience include Scholars, students, and other interested readers who are interested in this very important branch of the History of Christianity.
History
Coptica grew out of a cooperative effort of St. Shenouda the Archimandrite Coptic Society (Society) and St. Mark Foundation for Coptic History Studies (St. Mark Foundation). The name was proposed by Dr. Mark Swanson of Minnesota during the 2001 Business Meeting of the Society. It replaced the Bulletin of the St. Shenouda the Archimandrite Coptic Society which published six volumes between 1984 and 2001. Its editorial board was organized by the hard work of Dr. Gawdat Gabra from among scholars in Australia, Egypt, France, Germany, the Netherlands, and the United States.
